Abstract

The present text searched to cover the term environmentin D. W Winnicott /s work. For that, the term was examined in the works of rhis author and also in the theory of some other authors, in the sense of comparing and aprehending it in its specificity. A synthesis of this investigation was presented, taking as a comparative sample what concerns to Freud /s thoughts. Ir was concluded that Winnicott, with rhe term, refers to the psychological and/or physicalconditions necessaryto the emocional maturity of the human being, with their importance emphasized and enlarged: the enviroment /s capacity of adapting itself appropriately to the need of the being is going to imply in irs possibility of realizing and adapting with the other (external reality), likewise to form and to relate with itself (personal reality).
