Abstract

The matter of the paper is the philosophical problem ofthe conscience in the criticism of Strawson, the Cartesian reduction of the person to a mind or rational soul. Firstly, I will attempt to show that for Strawson, Descartes mistake consisted in the affirmation of the knowledge of the states of conscience by introspection, what would have led to a dualist conception of the person. Subsequently, I intend to examine the importance of the criticism from the analysis of the concept "conscience" and its application in the philosophy of Descartes.
