Abstract

This research consists of using the analysis of the concept of biopolitics, through Michel Foucault's perspectives, understandings and conceptions in relation to space, in other words, of analyzing the space of the city through biopolitics. The initial proposal is to somehow define the concept of biopolitics and present its influence and impact on space. The main purpose of this research is to establish a relationship between the medical knowledge presented in the spatial context of biopolitics, and its adaptation to other areas, i.e. its intersection with geography, architecture and urbanism. In this sense, it analyzes the change in the medical conception of the 18th century and how biopolitical mechanisms are constituted through its appropriation, presenting the irreducible way in which “life” is inspected and superimposed by medical-spatial issues.
