After determining the place of the process of maturation within the Winnicottian paradigm and outlining the general features of that process, this paper aims at showing that in an illness, if the process of maturation is blocked, regression in time is a condition for advancing in time, i.e. for cure understood as the resuming of the maturation process. The paper also aims at showing that through regression several past stages of the maturation process make themselves manifest; and that for regression– in particular, regression to dependency – and for the subsequent resuming the maturation process to unfold until the acquisition of a healthy maturity that conforms to one’s age, the individual needs favorable personal and environmental conditions.References
