In this paper we will see how Ricoeur described the place of epigenesis in the constitution of consciousness in the 1960s. We will argue that his development of the theory of triple mimesis was delayed by the lack of a theory of reading. It has been com-mon to point to autobiography as the literary genre par excellence of narrative identity. We will criticize this statement by arguing that those who defend it limit the identity to a narrative configuration issue, whereas Ricoeur focuses it on refiguration, that is, on the relationship between narration and reality.Downloads
