The article starts with an analysis of Freud 's Three Essays on Sexual Theory and The Interpretation of Dreams, and develops a reflection on the theoretical statute and the function of Oedipus Complex within Freud 's theory of the culture with the help of his interpretation of the Greek tragedy. In comparison to that, it presents Nietzsche's philosophical view of the cultural meaning of the tragic myth intending to draw out some relevant epistemological consequences of this confrontation.
