With the notion of self, Winnicott puts forward the idea that, in the heart of psyche, a secret core has to remain "an incommunicado element which is sacred and most worthy of presentation". This seems to be in contradiction with the fundamental psycho-analytical rule of "telling all" (tell everything) and explains "the hatred people have against psychoanalysis" and particularly the suspicion of teenagers afraid to be robbed of their intimacy. Therefore the analyst has to offer to the patient an implicit place of communication with subjective objects. In such place will be tested the "capacity to be alone", which is essential to the ability of a relationship.References
