Contributions of the maturation theory to the study of homoparental families

Among the claims of the homosexual people it is the right to have children and raise a family the same way heterosexual people do. Discussions in diverse areas have evidenced the legitimacy of this right and have approached the conflicts generated due to the different ways that end up being used to the constitution of the family. The present work, aiming to contribute to the theme, has as objective to think the homoparental family in relation to its effects on the psychic constitution of the child who is born and grows up among it, from D. W. Winnicott’s Human Maturation Theory and his Theory of Sexuality. Its proposal is to reflect about the place and role elaboration of each member of the parental couple and also the performance of these roles in relation to the satisfaction of the child’s needs. Therefore, Winnicott’s own papers are taken into consideration as well as authors who study his work in the present. The discussion sheds light on the importance of the facilitating environment to the constitution of a mature self and on how the facilitating quality of this environment depends on the good performance of the parental roles, which can do without the gender of the person who performs, but not without the characteristics of reliability and capacity of maintenance and management.References
