Having outlined the foundations of the Winnicottian derivation of monotheism – the situation of the baby on mother's lap as an exemplar problem-situation, the theory of personal and emotional maturing, the I AM stage – this paper then examines in detail the latter stage and role of the father in this period of maturing. It then provides an account of the emergence of monotheism based on Winnicott's psychoanalytic views.References
