Abstract

In a text dedicated to the concept of false self, Winnicott presents a fragment of a clinical case, the story of a 10 year-old boy who is presenting difficulties inherent to the internal conflicts arising from the triangular relations, being that the boy’s issue rests, mainly, on the relationship with his father – in the sense of an outsider and meaningful as a third person. Although the study about the false self concentrates mainly on the early stages of life, we know that due to the presence of a pathological false self many forms of distortion of maturation may occur in stages posterior. In this work I will discuss an aspect of the false self matter in the preparation of the oedipal conflicts, especially considering the relationship between the boy and his father.
